Ragged Road
Ramsay Lane, very steep down from Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal Mile to the top of The Mound, which in turn leads down to Princes Street, which in turn leads down Dundas Street to Canonmills (where I stopped) - and from there to the shore of the River Forth.
From the train station, I took advantage of an early optician appointment (I have new glasses, hooray!) to cycle down to Holyrood and all the way to the top of the Mile and then... aaaaaaaaaaall the way down to work. Yee-hah. A great way to start the day :)
With the evening "off", a pal from work and I went to the pub and had a few pints and some enormous burgers. A great way to end the day!
When I researched Ramsay Lane I discovered lots of information new to me, about the Ragged School that was there 150 years ago - "the first Scottish free school for the poor" - fascinating stuff. This is definitely something to look into, it turns out that one of those old statues in Princes Street Gardens is of Thomas Guthrie who started that Ramsay Lane Ragged School.
This evening I had a quiet time watching Herbie Hancock interviewed by Elvis Costello, which was just spine-tingling. I only have 1 Hancock album (I thought I had more, but I don't), I can see a trip to the record shop coming up :)
