Looking Cool
Elizabeth is getting pretty good at keeping her sunglasses on. Which means we no longer get shouted at to turn the sun off!
We have decided that we're going to try to get rid of Elizabeth's dummies soon. I have never liked seeing her with her dummy in, and although it's not in any way stopped her from developing her speech, it is difficult to understand what she's saying when she has it in. Plus she is obsessed by them and has to have 3 at one time. We manage to get through most of the day without them these day though, so that's something.
Anyway, I'm now regretting that we even started Rebecca on them. I don't want to go through this for another 2 years. So we've decided that we're going to try to wean Rebecca off hers first. Because Elizabeth would probably steal Rebecca's if we took hers away first.
Today was day 1.
She managed to fall asleep for her first nap, by sucking on my finger. At the second nap she got quite upset, so I let her have the dummy, she was asleep in 2 minutes. I took the dummy off her as soon as she was asleep.
She had the next couple of sleeps in the car, and got the dummy once while we were out for lunch (for the sake of the other customers). Then at night time, she fell asleep sucking on my finger again.
She has already started sucking on her own fingers instead. I'm hoping she'll eventually use them and settle herself, instead of needing my fingers all the time.
However, if she wakes overnight I will let her have the dummy, because I wouldn't want to wake Elizabeth up too. We'll go cold turkey overnight when Elizabeth has her next sleepover at her grandparents.
With Elizabeth we're hoping to swap the dummies for her (late) birthday present of a slide. We've been waiting for the weather to get better before buying it, and it's been really nice over the last week, so hopefully we can get that in a few weeks time. But maybe Rebecca giving hers up might be an incentive too?
