Under the A64
This is where the trains from York to Selby via Escrick would have crossed the A64 dual carriageway - had that railway line not been closed before the road was built.
Given that that there was nowt here but a disused railway when the underpass was built, it is strange that it is so wide. I guess that was to allow farm vehicles through. And since the farms are still there, this bicycle playground may be a bit of an inconvenience.
However, the disused railway is now a cycle path and contains a scale model of the solar system, with the sun just behind me as I blipped this. Each planet is both to scale and at the right (scaled!) distance from the sun - which is both satisfying and a great motivator when cycling the route with kids.
