prepare for landing...
...all systems are a go
graceful... gentle... delicately balanced as always... they came in a flourish... over the ridge - landing onto the water and ice
i have noticed over the last while.... remember several weeks ago, i was telling you how duck wings sing? you need to listen very closely to hear them - paying attention... but they do sing to you - it is a glorious sound to the ear... anyway, in the same fashion... geese wings rumble - as they come in overhead if you're listening - over the sound of their honking - you will hear a low rumbling sound... as their wings flutter together - it creates this deep hum - similar to a motor running but not quite... it took me a minute to realize it was coming from the geese themselves - not an outside source... i reckon it's also a type of singing - for it, too, is a sweet sound unto itself.
so the next time you are around geese - listen as they are flying past you - or overhead - coming in for a landing - taking off... see if those wings will talk to you - whisper a rumble or two... remember to listen closely so you can distinquish it over the loud honking and fussing they generally make - you will be astonished... pleased... awed... wanting to embrace these gentle giants - as it makes for...
a
happy day.....
