Step Cautiously

A Bug's Life

Today Alyssa and I went to Dairy Queen for a little snack. It was quite delicious if I do say so myself. But clearly, that is not the focus of this picture in the slightest bit.

As it shows up on your screen, this is probably an actual-size picture of this ginormous bug we encountered while trying to enjoy our tasty treats. And this thing would not leave us alone. I now understand why the Egyptians were so terrified of the Locus.

As disgusting as it was though, it was also hilarious. I guess the only thing this bug wanted to do was get its picture taken. To get this shot I had to be wicked close and let me tell you, I about crapped my pants. I swear this bug was about the size of my index finger. And don't let the fact that I have tiny fingers deter from the meaning of my previous statement. But with every shot I got, it kept getting closer and closer to me, changing sides (yet oddly always facing the camera), and all at the same time, scaring me half to death.

I do not have the best luck with insects. They pretty much creep me out no matter the setting. One night early last spring, there was a hoard of ladybugs in my room. I know you're probably thinking, "Oh! Ladybugs are so cute! And they're a sign of good luck! Why are you complaining??" Well trust me, you'd be complaining too if you found 47 ladybugs lining your walls right as you were about to head to sleep. And worst part, they found their way under my covers. The grossest feeling in the world is having ladybugs crawling up and down your legs.

Even thinking about it now I get chills...

Anyway, so this bug was horrid. I was very nervous being that close to it, plus all the people staring at Alyssa and me as we fawned over this thing wasn't that fun either, but yeah, disgusting.

I laugh at the fact that I'm afraid of bugs; or at least that they creep me out as much as they do. I'm like one million times the size of them, I could crush them in a second, and yet, they make me want to crawl inside myself. And the worst is how dumb I feel after screaming because of them. Irrational fears just seem to do that to us though. There was recently a study released that commented on the fact that people see the subject of their fears more intensified than it actually is in real life.

Just an interesting little tid bit. Hope you enjoyed!
