From Across the Pond...

Look at the set on that village

As a multi-discipline project, the interns have been giving presentations on a wide variety of topics over the past few days. This was the only picture that came out halfway decent due to the bad lighting, but it's of my favorite project so far (Thobela speaking about his village of Cofimvaba, which in Xhosa means "a woman's breasts"...you can see why). He has a wonderful ear for languages, knowing four well already and working on French, and his pronunciation of English is very delicate and pleasing to the ear. Beyond the enjoyment of listening to him, though, I learned about many things no one has explained to me so far, such as the role of medicine men and the traditional marriage process in the Xhosa villages... it turns out that a few weeks ago when Mbulelo told Kerry (from Maine) he'd give her father twelve cows for her, he was making a pretty big offer!
