From Across the Pond...

Good day for sleeping in

With downpours and no alarm clock, today was a nice relaxing day. I read up on the news, put an hour in on my budget project, and started practicing my European countries... let me stop here for a sec. I mentioned the Dutch girl who berated me for being American at the bar a few weeks ago, but since then I've actually heard the "Americans are ignorant and arrogant" speech exactly four more times, from (1) two white South Africans at a bar last week, (2) my French friend Alex, (3) my French friend Heloise, more than once really, and (4) my French friend Vincent (anyone else seeing a pattern here?) Don't get me wrong, I like all of these people, and every one of them has had the kindness to say "I don't mean this about you, since you're nice and not stupid like the rest of them, but..." but I want to give the stars and stripes a better showing than that. Thus, as the Frenchies' number one criticism is that we're ignorant about (Eurocentric) geography and the international arena in general, I'm planning to spend the next week learning to draw a map of every single country in Europe, plus the heads of state for each and current events to top it all off. Some might say - and they probably will - that I should have known all that stuff already, but in that case I can point out that it only took a week to learn, and I was a good person all along.

Which brings me to the Saturday afternoon tuna sandwich on freshly baked and toasted gluten-free bread. Is there a more reliable meal on the planet?
