Poisoned at Drummond Castle with her sisters
We visited Dunblane Cathedral. A wonderful building, and very atmospheric despite a series of fairly major renovations that are quite difficult to disentangle. The architecture is magnificent, but it was this brass plate on the floor of the choir that made the biggest impression on me.
It seems a bit unfortunate for the said Margaret - and arguably even more so for her two innocent sisters - for her to be married to James IV but to be bumped off by some nobles who clearly thought he could marry someone more useful; namely Princess Margaret of England. You'd have thought a discreet divorce would have sufficed, and possibly slipped off quietly to the Continent. But no, poisoned at Drummond Castle it was to be for the three of them. I wonder what their father, Lord Drummond (of the said castle?) had to say about it?
There were three such plates; one for each sister.
