Elgar

Jemma Pearson made this statue of Elgar and his trusty bicycle. He's looking at Hereford cathedral but the idea is he's staring into the Herefordshire countryside, getting inspired.

Elgar moved to Hereford in 1904 and remained there, writing lots of stuff (because he was so inspired, I guess) until 1911, when he moved to Hampstead in London.

I didn't know Elgar had anything to do with Hereford. Apart from his music, I know very little about Elgar. Since today, however, I also know that the 11th (G.R.S.) movement of the Enigma Variations was inspired by a bulldog called Dan, after it fell in the River Wye and splashed about a bit.

Travel is such an education.
