A Year in Phnom Penh

Rural Life

A morning cycling through the outskirts of Kratie town, seeing provincial life in Cambodia. I love being in these places, as everyone comes out to greet you and shout hello, including this young girl, who then became rather shy, but depicted beautifully the pace of life. Nearly every doorway had at least one sometimes more people sat in it, watching the world go by. On the other side of the houses, the Mekong meandered through large swaths of uncovered (dry season) sand.

It does remind me of real Cambodian life, away from the hustle and bustle and modern veneer of Phnom Penh.
