Rainbow Bridge

This sunny and springlike afternoon was ideal for a walk through The University Parks on the way in to my office, which is just on the edge of the Parks.

The bridge in the photograph is popularly known as the Rainbow Bridge. It was built in 1923-24 in a relief project for the unemployed. The River Cherwell, seen from the bridge, is rather tranquil today.

Spring flowers are abundant in the Parks now. The snowdrops are fading, although there are still masses of them carpeting the ground. We were really anxious to see how the crocuses are doing, and I thought that this clump in the sun and under some big trees looked particularly good.

Here are some of the blooms in a closer shot.
