Well worth going through!
This is the entrance to Wrey church (near Carlisle). It replaces one which one which fell into disrepair in the mid ninteenth century. It is built on land donated by Sara Losh who also paid for the church. Sara was an independent young lady and the gifts were conditional to being able to have her own way about everything. She was her own architect and made a very fine job of it.
The church is in the shape of a Roman Basilica and contains much symbolic carving. There are also fine gargoyles. The arrows which you may just be able to see in the door are a reference to the death of a family friend killed in war in Afghanistan in 1842. 1842? 2012? What changes?
