Brassed Off
Well, that was a total failure, of epic proportions.
It looked like the solar storm that hit us today was going to give us a glimpse of the northern lights, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky....
So we grabbed the cameras at 9pm and headed out. A local road about two or three miles from us has a long lay-by (parking area) and its high up.....but the local authority have installed street lights, and the light pollution is awful.......
So, we headed off up the M62 to Saddleworth Moor, but the car park off jn22 we were heading for was full of lorries......
Do we pressed on a bit further but couldn't find a suitable place to stop (it's so cold up on the moor that they've had some snow recently). Got somewhere to check t'internet only to find the kp index (strength of solar storm) had dropped, so, no aurora.......
Back home for a cup of tea then, no clouds about so I could get a good picture of the moon instead as a consolation blip.......
Got home and cloud rolled in, so I rushed out to the back garden in time to switch on the camera and watch the moon vanish into the clouds.......
Oh, and did I mention that it then started raining too ?
At that point, I threw the towel in and we retreated to bed with a cup of tea. So, consolation blip, brassed off.
This blipping lark is not as easy as it looks.
