My lunchtime mooch took me to the river. I'd never really noticed the colours and textures on the chain link barrier before but today I did.

Got me thinking about the links we make with others throughout our lives, how those links can be sometimes strong but sometimes fragile. How they break - sometimes to be reconnected, sometimes not.

It's International Women's Day, a day to particularly think about those women - past and present - who have had an influence on all of our lives.

This evening I'm off to hear Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty, speak at the UEA (University of East Anglia).
