inspired by allotment owners.
We pass these allotments on our way into town. I am fascinated by the seemingly random arrangement of sheds and equipment. Nothing seems to be wasted. Water buts and compost bins are much in evidence. There doesn't seem to be much growing here except winter kale but there are already signs that the owners are returning after their winter break - and who knows what is happening in the sheds and greenhouses.
I met a young Mum the other day. She was pushing her baby with one hand and pulling a shopping trolley full of gardening tools in the other. She had just taken over an allotment with her partner. They were busy coping with weeds left by the previous tenant. She was full of enthusiasm for the crops she was going to grow. That baby will be well nurtured, I'm sure.
