Strelizea Flower

These are one of my favourites flowers which now bring me sad memories.

The first school that I taught at after receiving my degree had a strelizea as the school badge. The gardens were full of these attractive flowers and I always admired them.

A couple of years ago I decided to re-do the garden at the entrance to our home. I had finally decided how I wanted to do it and spent many weekends at garden centres finding all the items and plants. This was quite a big deal because I am the opposite of a green thumb. I planted two strelizea plants on either side of the pathway and couldnt wait for their first flowers to open. I completed the garden with cycads and pebbles and everything looked perfect.

Unfortunately soon after this we were attacked and robbed in our house one night and we never went back to live there again. I didn't see my strelizea flower and now when I see a strelizea it remainds me of loss.

I spent a lot of time driving around in the car today and plan to spend tomorrow at home relaxing.
