Drip Old Bridge .....
....... is Category A Listed & a Scheduled Monument.
Built in 1773 it crosses the River Forth at its historic boundary between Stirlingshire and Perthshire, on the site of a medieval ford and former ferry route.
206 feet long with 5 symmetrical arches, the bridge boasts cutwaters designed to ebb the current and break up ice, and voussoirs forming pedestrian refuges to either side of the centre arch.
Located on the West bank is Drip Bridge Conservation Area, a small hamlet comprising of the original Inn (c1790), Tollhouse (1820), and Smithy.
Through the left arch you can see part of the span of the concrete replacement bridge on the A84 connecting Stirling with Callander and ultimately Crianlarich. At the far end of the bridge adjascent to the entrance you will note the diabolical placement of a massive roadsign.
It appears to me that planners don't have much common sense.
