Thistle Down

By Ethel

It Happened

It nearly happened to me,
It nearly came...and more.
As I started softly falling,
Never quite to hit the floor.

I sat so still...just resting,
There upon the chair.
And within another minute,
I could be laying there.

For twice...I started reeling,
With antics of a clown.
It was a lucky thing for me,
Else then I would be down.

I almost had it coming,
For the feel was very deep.
And I needed just a second,
To settle down and sleep.

Something sapped my very strength,
And I rose to tell.
How I jumped up to catch myself,
Before I even fell.
