Big Cookies

Big Cookies...
That Grandma makes.
Big, sugary cookies,
That children takes.

Bright eyes looking up,
As if to tease.
Touching them to their lips,
As if to please.

Grandma gave them something,
Big and round and sweet.
Something they could call their own,
That they could hold and eat.

Something she made yesterday,
And put them on a shelf.
For eyes to her a-looking up,
Like a little elf.

Sugar Cookies...Yes they are,
That only Grandma bakes.
And gives to little children,
"Land O Goodness Sakes".

I tried to find Grandma's cookie recipe but I couldn't find it. I offer up her Kiss Me Cake.

Kiss Me Cake

Cream together 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup shortening (butter for the youngsters) and 2 cups flour. Add 2 beaten eggs, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup milk. Grind together 1 orange, 1 cup raisins, 1/2 cup nuts and add to the above mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. When cake is a light brown, mix 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup crushed nuts, 1/3 cup cream and put on top of cake. Bake about 10 minutes longer and remove from oven and let cool. Ethel Pickett
