Optic Nerve

Camelia's ready for her closeup.

At least I think it's a pistel-packing Camelia, but I may be wrong.

Today was macro tube day. I mean - that's not official in an 'International Women's Day' - or 'Fairtrade Fortnight' sense.. although if I ruled the world perhaps national macro tube day would be an early edict. I'm not applying, by the way - whatever you say - I'm allergic to back-handers.

Nope - a cheap & cheerful, early extension (pun my soul) to my SLR kit that squashes depth of field to something only Edwin Abbott Abbott* would appreciate; upside of course is the immensely magnified detail. The tricky thing is holding a steady shot (I'm way too cool for a tripod obviously - well, I still haven't found it, tbh) on various insect and flower parts - something which I almost very nearly attained.

The wonder-full thing about it is, of course, revealing the beautiful complexity at scales one often ignores. I think it's human nature to assume 'we've seen it all before' - a subconscious brain-optimisation algorithm rather than willful ignorance; or in my case, simply ongoing myopia and arrogance.

Caustic colours, perky pistels and some pseudo-drivel on cognitive neuroscience. What more could you want from a blip?! *Flatland 1884
