The underground life of New York

I managed to finish a decent first draft of my paper. But first, I actually fell asleep in the library. Explain this to me: why is it that it takes me hours to fall asleep at night, and yet, in a sudden 20-minute nap on the corner of my library table, I can fall asleep soundly enough to actually dream?
