Good Herons Above!

Not the blip I intended.
I did have a blip taken at Blackpool Football Ground of a statue of Stan Mortenson, but later as I drove past Stanley Park I saw a heron at the side of the lake.

Anyway, as I walked towards the spot where it had been standing it flew off into the trees.

I looked up, cursing my luck that the opportunity had gone.

And that's when I learned that herons nest high in the trees. For some reason I'd always thought they nested lower down.

To the left you can make out 3 herons on the branches. All the other dark patches are nests. I counted at lest 20 nests in these trees. Spare a thought for the man fishing further on the lake. With such a population of heron I don't think he'll be catching much.
