A small part of a big flower.
After all the excitement of Mothers' Day yesterday I thought that today we chaps should get a bit of a mention. So, here we have a tiny stamen from the big, big flower of an Hippeastrum. Hippeastrum is a genus of South American bulbs whose cultivars are commonly sold by florists as amaryllis. Proper Amaryllis are bulbous flowers as well, but they come from the other side of the Atlantic, from South Africa. Botany is far too complicated for me!
