Cornish Times

At Home with the Ovaltineys in 2012...

This evening, while sitting at home listening to the BBC Home Service on the wireless I casually peered over my copy of the Radio Times and noticed that the traditional life I thought we had is nothing of the sort...

Yes, we have all the traditional things; books on the bookcases(s), the latest in Radiogram technology and even a rather fetching mantle clock over the fireplace, which as I write, is down to it's last glowing embers.

But all these things can seem rather peripheral in this modern world. Our living room is dominated by boxes with flashing little screens. From the two laptops, Brenda's Kindle, which has the potential to store more books than all the hundreds of books in the house, a multitude of mobile phones and Ipods and of course the 'Cathode Ray Tube' the size of a spaceship....None of these things, I hasten to add I know how to use to their full potential. But even so, we can't do without them. Where would I be without Ebay or Facebook? Or even texting?

But I do remember a time before the flashing boxes where I was equally as happy but less clueless. I might go back to my wireless because 'Gardener's Question Time' is on soon....just after I update my status and of course, finish this Blip..
