grape kool-aid trees

Yep. These lovely Texas Mountain Laurels make the air in and around Austin smell like grape kool-aid. And I love it. It smells like spring to me. It reminds me of a former student who described them so perfectly (as grape kool-aid) some years ago. And it is a season - that of the grape kool-aid trees - that slips by all too quickly. I almost missed capturing a picture of these trees this year...and just barely caught this one on my walk this morning. The flowers might be withering away but they still smell just as heavenly.
