Masquerade
Getting in on the act a little earlier today, as we are off out with the younger generation.
The piercing blue eyes behind the mask belong to Eli.The mask itself belongs to ME, a present from my dear husband on his return from New Orleans.
I had seen this when visiting Leo a couple of months ago but refused to purchase it, due to its size, breakability and sheer weight !----- Hey presto , it now finds itself right where it belongs!
I just LOVE the extravagant masks they have over there.Every one is a winner in my eyes.(maybe that should read in front of my eyes!)They remind me of the masked scene from Phantom of the Opera, which I would say was my favourite number in the entire production.Such a stirring piece of music.
I have always dreamed of attending a masked ball, so romantic. Maybe I will have to resign myself to making that a wish for the future.
Masquerade!
Paper faces on parade...
Masquerade!
Hide your face,
so the world will
never find you!
Masquerade!
Every face a different shade...
Masquerade!
Look around -
there's another
mask behind you!
Flash of mauve...
Splash of puce...
Fool and king...
Ghoul and goose...
Green and black...
Queen and priest...
Trace of rouge...
Face of beast...
Faces...
Take your turn, take a ride
on the merry-go-round...
in an inhuman race...
Eye of gold...
Thigh of blue...
True is false...
Who is who...?
Curl of lip...
Swirl of gown...
Ace of hearts...
Face of clown...
Faces...
Drink it in, drink it up,
till you've drowned
in the light...
in the sound...
Masquerade!
Grinning yellows,
spinning reds...
Masquerade!
Take your fill -
let the spectacle
astound you!
Masquerade!
Burning glances,
turning heads...
Masquerade!
Stop and stare
at the sea of smiles
around you!
Masquerade!
Seething shadows,
breathing lies...
Masquerade!
You can fool
any friend who
ever knew you!
Masquerade!
Leering satyrs,
peering eyes...
Masquerade!
Run and hide -
but a face will
still pursue you!
