Fruit of the Earth

A fabulous Spring day out on Forvie Moor, today. Blue sky, no clouds, warm air, no wind, and no madding crowds, just me!
On my travels I came across this strange, fruit-like object lying on the grass. Anyone like to hazard a guess as to what it is? If necessary, all will be revealed tomorrow.
