The Lost Garden of Penicuik

The Penicuik Community Food Project has now secured a lease on the old walled garden in the Penicuik Estate. I went up for a couple of hours this afternoon (in the sunshine) and helped dig out nettle roots. It's a wonderful vision and a lot of work will be needed.

This is the main entrance to the garden - you can compare this dilapidated gate with a similar photo here taken before the garden became unused and overgrown. I rather like the crack in the shield.
