Spawnscape
But best of all was the warm thick slobber
Of frogspawn that grew like clotted water
In the shade of the banks.
From Death Of A Naturalist by Seamus Heaney. 1966
The strange "fruit" in yesterday's blip was an egg-bloated, mature ovary of a toad. The unfortunate toad had been killed by a predator, whether it be otter, fox or gull I know not. Predators often discard the ovaries and jelly producing oviducts of frogs and toads; possibly they are toxic or bad to the taste.
