The A&P Show
The weather for the show was fine and warm, with a nor'west gale. Small branches were blown off trees, and clouds of gritty dust rose with each big gust. A pipe band marched past about 50 metres downwind of me and I didn't hear it! Some of the marquees were unable to cope, but competitors and spectators alike just got on with it.
There were a lot of different animals, but I liked the the chopping and shearing events. You can see the fleece flying as a sheep is shorn in 41 seconds. There were masses of different crafts and produce, such as beautiful flowers, handmade wools, and artwork by the children. There were some impressive shots in the photography section. (No, I didn't enter because I don't use film any more).
The funniest event was the small dog races. These were the wee lapdog range. They were lined up and firmly held as a man on a motorbike made a couple of passes dragging a well dead possum. You should have seen the interested little faces. Then the motorbike took off and the dogs were let go. They were supposed to be caught at the other end of the track by their handlers, but a delightful chaos ensued. Some followed the possum, but others went off in all directions. What a scramble to get them all rounded up again!
