Mata Atlântica
The Mata Atlântica is a unique ecosystem that has been almost vastly reduced in size by the actions of man. Once 1.2 million square kilometers in size, now less than 100,000 square kilometers of the forest remains.
It was amazing to visit the forest that is part of the the Vale reserve north of Linhares on BR-101. We saw such a vast array of plant and wildlife, from neuro-toxic ants, spiders, frogs to ancient trees that had their tops well out above the canopy. As you can probably guess, there were so many photos to choose from; but this tree summed up the enormity of the forest for me.
