Concerned...
I got a call from my wife this morning a mile from where our kids go to day care a guy has called the Police and said he is in the woods at the High School with an AK-47.
After managing to get hold of day care I have found that the center is on lock down and they are all in the playroom that has no windows and there are two cops guarding the outside.
Does having access to websites full of hearsay and local forums full of speculation help in cases such as these? I am not sure but I am keeping all the pages refreshed as in these situtation you take all the information you can get.
Having called the day care and found out the situtation I then went back to the local forum to relay some of that information, but I found when I came to do it that I onyl wanted to refer to the day care generically and not mention its location or name specifically.
It occurred to me that much as we all want to keep informed on whats going on with our kids that the suspected shooter (if this is not a stupid prank) could have a smart phone and actually be reading the same forums and websites as the concerned parents so he can plan his next move.
That may be paranoid and risks of such information being used in that way are obviously very low... but with such a consequence of the information being useful to a shooter and resulting in harm to your children the human need to act and on low risk but high consequence events kicks in.
I'm going back to the forums to refresh and hopefully there will only be more posts about kids tweeting that they are all locked down and those that are allowed to go to the bathroom are going escorted by security with guns... hopefully nothing more dramatic.
UPDATE:
The lock down is over after SWAT teams and helicopters and 4 hours of sweeps of the area. As there seems to be no news yet of an arrest it looks like it may have been a hoax.
