Swingrope
Here's another activity the safety departments don't like. Vessel to vessel- or vessel to barge transfer of crew members by a swingrope. Swingropes are very useful when you have nothing to grab or to hold on to. The crew of the receiving vessel passes over the swingrope to you when you are on the barge or other vessel. You wait until the other vessel is at the same height or a little bit higher than your position, you make sure the rope is not slack, take a deep breath and let go. If you're doing this in this sequence, the chance that you will land on the receiving vessel is 100%. The only aspect of this manoeuvre nobody can foresee is the speed of travelling and landing. And that's the weak point of this operation. But on the other hand, if you are an experienced swingroper, this is a very handy and safe way of your intervessel transfer. On the picture you see eight riggers safely transferred back to the Retriever. But the weather conditions were excellent.
