Big Beach
This weekend Shep, Heloise, Bruno and I decided to drive up the west coast in search of "the flowers" which erupt from the region every spring. Sadly, we missed most of them, and the one tie-dyed hill I saw went by our 120km/hr windows before I could catch it. The real highlights of the weekend were the beaches and small coastal towns along the way (this one is called Paternoster...no one could tell us why it had a Latin name amongst a hundred Afrikaner ones) and the night spent in Velddrif. The bad assumption that we'd find ample backpackers near the park, succeeded by booked hotels, almost forced us to drive back to Cape Town Friday night, but after a little sweet talking on the part of Heloise and Bruno, we were firing up the grill at a Hotel Manager's friend's waterfront house by sunset...all to ourselves, all for less than a hundred bucks. Note to self: no more criticizing Frenchies for sitting around all the time discussing stuff.
