A day with Zingaphi and Mbulelo

As Vincent, Bruno, and the recently-arrived Lindsey had yet to experience the townships, we convinced Zingaphi to take us all on a walking tour of Samora Michel and Philippi yesteday. It was a perfect day, especially for sunburning, and everywhere we went people offered to share their beer and braai. In this picture we are actually near the Philippi train station sampling one of her favorite local foods (grilled sheep's liver and sheets of fat dusted with Peri Peri, each of which you eat little strips at the same time...I've never eaten intact liver until now, and it was really good!). After that we picked up Mbulelo, drove to a Mzoli's-esque outdoor bar and spent the afternoon chatting it up with locals, who though they started the conversation with, "Why are you here?" or "Are you lost?" usually ended it with a hug and kind acknowledgment. It was an awesome day, and I think the newbies were pleasantly surprised not only at how safe and friendly the townships can be, but how much fun they had spending the day out there.
