My Saturday
I couldn't chose one photo so here is my morning!
1. Misty morning as we drove to Abby's Cafe (as we call it - its actually the Opawa Bakery and Cafe) at 9am for breakfast. We drove out of the mist to a glorious sunny day that has just got better.
2. A collection of the cafe's goods - we didn't actually have this for brekkie. Dave had Eggs Benedict and I had eggs and mushrooms. Abby's coffee was awesome as usual. We did take a piece of the Donauwelle to try though and it was delicious. This place has to be one of Chch's best kept secrets. See large for extra envy!
3. and 4. We made our way to Alice in VideoLand for the first time since the Feb quake. It is sitting in a wasteland as you can see but its glorious Art Deco building is intact and celebrating its survival! Perhaps I will blip that tomorrow. The bottom left photo shows what the demolition of a building on the corner has revealed and looks like an episode of "Life Without People"! What a great piece of an old advert billboard is showing now. Wonder when "Polson" paint was for sale? I certainly do not remember it. Strange to think that this was a busy corner of a bustling city not so long ago. There is lots of work going on taking damaged buildings down and clearing sites ready for the rebuild.
It has been a good day. I have some lamb shanks cooking in stock and bay leaves in the slow cooker and the smell of it is divine. Veges are ready to go on and a glass of wine is poured. Despite a wee shake that woke me in the early morning, all seems well with the world. Happy Saturday Blippers!
