Colours, Iona

It is easy to understand why the Scottish Colourists were so in love with Iona. It is certainly a "thin" place as the founder of the Iona Community, George MacLeod, put it meaning that here the barrier between the physical and spiritual - our two worlds - is very porous.

The wonderful light contributes much to such a feeling and especially today when the whole place was illuminated by brilliant sunshine.

This was taken on the west side of the island, in the rocky ground at the south of the Machair where a narrow grassy gully opens up to a sheer cliff and a wonderful view of rock and ocean.
