thousands of birds trapped in the world trade center tribute in lights.
barely discernible, except for the fluttering streaks of light,
they looked like the souls of the fallen.

after i took this photo,
a lone bagpipe started to play amazing grace.
the few of us left in the street were brought to tears.

i will never forget that day.
