Last Blipof the Day

The plan today was to drive from Brisbane to Hunter Valley, but we always knew we were being a bit optimistic and so it turned out. A slightly later start than we had hoped for and a few sets of road works and we were forced to readjust our plans and head instead for Port MacQuarrie, another of Ozbeachcomber's fine suggestions.

Although we had 8 hours on the road, we had a couple of excellent pit stops. The first was Melba's Verandah in Broadwater, a quaint but excellent eaterie on the main highway. The scones with cream and homemade preserve were wonderful, but it was the atmosphere of sitting on, what felt like, the verandah of a settler's house a bit special. Lunch was at Nambucca Heads and consisted of the simple pleasure of a steak pie and muffin from the local bakery, eaten in the local park overlooking a beautiful creek.

Port Macquarrie is a very relaxing resort and we had no problem finding excellent accommodation near the beach. Within 10 minutes of checking in we were once again in the sea frolicking about in the surf. After a long drive, it was a great way to unwind!

Having arrived late in the day, it was not long before the sun was starting to set. I went looking for a blip of the surfers in the sunset or the anglers trying their luck from the beach. It would also have been great to blip the dolphin and her calf as they swam in the harbour area. However, as there was a sunset to be chased, I settled on this shot of it over the harbour!

Hopefully, with an early start tomorrow, we will make it to Hunter Valley for lunchtime and get time to sample some of that lovely Shiraz!
