Ready for the Big Wide World
Six weeks ago these sturdy young saplings were mere black specks, today they are ready to be planted out in the hope that they will outlast the ravages of bunnies, snails and slugs, and take their place eventually as companions to tripe or the basis for a fine Spanish Omelette.
They are the first of the seasons plantings, tomorrow if the weather holds they will be joined by lettuce, red cabbage and bledders. As always I am desperate to see signs of my tomato seeds sprouting and hopefully they will be followed in quick succession by peppers, courgettes, and aubergines.
My hort is getting too small for my ambitions, so this year as I haven't time to bring new areas into cultivation, all the herbs are going into pots, and the geraniums will get a rest.
My new secret roots will also get planted this week, they are showing signs of strong sprouts already so I have high hopes.
