Bouquet of Barbed Wire

A dreich day of intermittent rain and grey skies gave little incentive to venture far afield. so my lens turned towards the old stone sink where a couple of years ago I tossed in some earth and gravel and poked a few baby cacti into the surface and pretty much neglected the whole thing apart from adding a few shells that we collected from the beach one afternoon.

Like with most things in the garden benign neglect seems to be the perfect care package, the baby cacti are teenagers now and the girls wisely seem to have grown a protective fence of spiny deterrence.

In the sun the lizards like to play and dart among the rocks, today of course they played camera shy on account of the overcast, so a desert without monsters it remained.
