inspired by pipes and pottery
I have been spending a lot of time digging in the garden during the last few days. We have some native trees to plant and I am anxious to get them in the ground as soon as possible. I have never, ever worked in a garden with so many stones of all shapes and sizes. I know how the early farmers must have felt when they cleared the ground for ploughing!
We were visiting Kendal museum the other day and I noticed how many hoardes of coins had been found in the area. No luck for me in that area, but I enjoy spotting sherds of pottery and pieces of clay pipes. I love the feeling that some of them could have been in daily use perhaps two hundred years ago - or is that brown piece part of a teapot from Woolworth's?
