Urupukapuka Island
Day 4 of NZ trip. I've got internet access and a half decent phone photo so thought I'd blip it.
We went on a boat trip this morning round the Bay of Islands which is off the north east side of the North Island. The whole area is beautiful but unfortunately we haven't seen it at it's best. It started raining at about 10am on Tuesday and didn't stop once until about 9am today (and then showered on and off all day). It's also been very, very windy- the tail end of the cyclone that hit Fiji earlier in the week.
We took ages deciding whether to do the boat trip but this was our last chance to do it here (could have done one round Auckland but twice the price) so we went for it despite the warnings of it being very choppy. It was but everyone was fine. We saw 3 groups of 3 or 4 dolphins and 1 blue penguin. The we stopped on this island for an hour and explored the beach and paddled in the sea before going back to the mainland. Oh and the boys got to sit in the co-skippers seat on the way back which they loved.
In the afternoon we went to a waterfall which was very impressive after all the rain then drove an hour south to a campsite on the beach. Tomorrow we head back to our friends in Auckland.
