See, just squeeze the waist and . . . . . Whoosh!
A late, retrospective Blip for Saturday as the late evening was taken up with last minute hotel searching. Off to Guilin, China proper, today, Sunday.
Saturday involved much running about plus sitting still. Breakfasted locally, bacon & egg in a noodle soup for me, Toast & "jam" ???? for Sue. Back to hotel catering today.
Walked up Waterloo Road, past Dundas St., to Argyle St. (Didn't our ancestors get about!) to get tickets for a concert, Went over to HK side and stood in a queue for 1.5 hrs for Tram cable car to The Peak. A wee bit misty but reasonably good views. 20 mins looking then 20 mins queuing to get back down. 2+ hours for a tenner. Not bad for HK!, which is a lot more expensive than Vietnam one has to say!
Found a hairdresser for Sue and I sat & watched tropical fish. That's Saturdays for you. Got bored so abandoned Sue to her snipper.
Went to HK Culture Centre Concert Hall for the concert, no less. This was one of a series by the HK Philharmonic to bid farewell to their conductor of 8 years, Edo De Waart. The first piece was a rather beautiful modern composition by Chen Qigang, named Iris Devoilee. An unusual blend of classical western style and traditional Chinese operatic style. This included 3 classic Chinese instruments and 2 Sopranos, one of whom also sang in Peking Opera mode. Very shrill and piercing. Strange to our ears, but most intriguing stuff. Had to tell, by sign, two local youngsters to be quiet. Why come to a concert to talk?????
The second part of the concert was an arrangement of Wagner's Parsifal. No eastern input, and the first time I have followed and enjoyed Wagner. Not Apocalypse Now stuff, but Wagner, quite definitely.
Back to Hotel and 3 hours on the PC, as mentioned already.
Baggage weight restrictions on this evenings flight, so today will include a prune & abandon session. Oh dear!
Catch you all later.
