Squeezed in a lot on this our last day in Hong Kong. Breakfast, Lunch a A supper of sorts at the airport! In between, we slept late-ish, thoroughly unpacked and repacked, discarding all that might be deemed un-necessary for the remainder of the journey, such as battered shoes ( new copies in bottom of rucksack), half used sun protection factor 25, 1/2 gallon after-sun lotion, big bottle of mozzie repellent (fingers crossed on that one!), pair of new but ruined shorts, etc.,etc.
Got rid of about 4 kg, which was necessary for the flight with China Southern Airlines, who are reputedly difficult with excess baggage. In the event, they didn't weigh our carry-on bags so we needn't have bothered, but had we not . . . . . . ?
Lunched in a genuine vegetarian restaurant - veggie Tom Yam ( spicy prawn soup. Yum, yum.) Chilled tofu with seaweed dressing and sweet + sour fried fish, washed down with a Mango, Passion Fruit & Yoghurt Smoothie. PDB!
Walked along the "prom" at the south end on the Kowloon peninsula looking to North Shore, HK Island Side. See photo today. Witnessed a classic example of the "Would you like me to take a photo of you both" scam. Wouldn't have trusted the perp in a million years, but two young girls lost their camera. Strange, as the perp was distinctively dressed and coiffured so easy to find in a crowd / line-up.
Found an Irish pub and had my second & third pints of the black stuff in 11 weeks! ! ! Not surprising at £5++/pint!
Picked up luggage, went to airport, had a pizza, didn't know our gate was in another building and almost missed the flight. It's a strange experience hearing your name yelled over the Tannoy in an airport. Your turn to feel like a prat for being late. Got to Guilin airport, but promised ride didn't show up. Helpful lass kicked some butt and a taxi took us the 30 odd Kms to town. Hotel had "forgotten" so they paid.
Off to kip now, & exploring tomorrow.
Cheers,
G&S
