The Back of Beyond
I'm not entirely sure what that means but i feel it describes this place quite well, it is pretty much the middle of nowhere.
When i was in year 11 my Physics teacher (who was welsh) used to go on about how they came and kicked the welsh people and the sheep out of their valleys and sent the water to Birmingham and it's to those reservoirs in the Elan valley that we went.
This is taken just below the massive Claerwen dam. I find the dams slightly weird and I'm not sure about reservoirs. Beautiful as they are they just don't look quite right, the surrounding hills stunted and hidden; I think i'd rather see the valley as it was. It's weird to stand on top and look down the 50-something meters to the valley floor on one side and think how much water there is on the other.
We went for a walk up the side of the 4 mile long reservoir and had a pic nic and also helped a stuck sheep. We went home via the other few dams and reservoirs too and via the last part of the 'mountain road' with it's beautiful vast empty view.
