There and back again

Grimspound

Back on the moor last night and up for our walk this morning. It was a bit misty but not cold and as usual we had the place to ourselves except for a small group of ponies.

The mist alters your prospective of places and Grimspound certainly had an air of mystery about it this morning. It dates from the Bronze age and the large enclosure or pound contains some 24 hut circles. Its location in a valley between Hookney Tor and Hameldown certainly suggests that it was not built here as a defensive position.
but even today, after some 4000 years, its size and construction gives the impression of a place of some importance.
