Kawakawa
Holiday backblip- New Zealand- Day 2
We left Auckland in our friends' campervan to drive up to the Bay of Islands. It rained most of the day (and didn't stop for about 48 hours) but as our drive was over 4 hours it didn't really matter.
Stopped in Kawakawa for lunch and to see the most famous public toilets in the World! The Hundertwasser toilets. They are all tiled with fancy tiles and mosaics, glass bricks and bottles in the walls. Throughout the village there are lots of other arty bits and mosaics and this strange but cool outside art gallery/sculpture trail. This 'corridor' of mirrors and mosaics was very cool as were some of the other bits. A few sculptures looked like they were done while under the influence of something illegal and were a bit odd but it was worth the few dollars to get in, the boys ran round it twice and would have stayed for ages if we'd let them.
Then we drove up to Paihia, a little seaside town in the Bay of Islands. Wandered round in the rain then drove across to Russell to our campsite and played football in the rain.
