What is the World Coming Too?
- Caution Rant-
Yesterday mum showed me a box of tea with something rather stupid on it. That was the same box of tea that is the upper left picture. The keen eyed among you will have already picked up on the common theme which runs through all the pictures. Serving suggestions.
That was mum pointed out. The serving suggestion of putting the tea in a cup. Genius. That was sarcasm by the way.
So my question is this: Why are they there? Is there some piece of ridiculous legislation which requires companies to put those two ridiculous words beneath ridiculous pictures of their products? Or do they merely assume we are all morons?
Perhaps however there is a deeper darker message behind all of this. Perhaps Mr. Tesco (that's where the offending tea box was from) is actually trying to say that we should all drink tea from ridiculously ornate and in my opinion rather ugly cups. Perhaps they in fact sell the cup pictured and it is discreet advertising.
Looking at the other pictures now. The one on the gravy is more understandable it is gravy for chicken so they show chicken with gravy on, fair enough. Is it really necessary to say 'serving suggestion'? The margerine is perhaps the most ridiculous. It isn't even a picture its a bit of clip-art. Are they saying that we should all eat virtual cake with candles on? And do they even need to say that you should make cake with it before eating? I was just going to grab a spoon and dig in! However the real problem here as I see it is with the the sticky toffee pudding. They appear to be saying that we should eat it off the floor. In this case I think putting serving suggestion is quite frankly dangerous and I intend to sue them at the next available opportunity.
Ok so maybe I'm being a tad silly but my point stands: What is the point? Soon will we need a label on boxes for bikes saying 'activity suggestion' beneath a kid riding the bike. Will we need a message on car adverts where it says 'usage suggestion' just beneath a picture of some one driving it. I was planning on using my mum's Suzuki as a coffee table and nobody has told me that isn't what it is intended for so I think its a great idea.
But in all seriousness if anyone know the reasoning behind it please do tell me. 'Comment suggestion'
