"The Perp"
This is one of the suspects in the now on going investigation into the case of the missing gerbera blossoms.
Evidence: Two stems with no flowers. None anywhere to be seen. The beautiful vanilla colored gerbera flowers...gone without a trace.
Facts: On-line investigation reveals that squirrels have been seen snacking on gerbera plants: leaves, stems and flowers. Rabbits might also help themselves, but container was off the ground by several feet which probably rules out animal that can't easily access container and rabbits have rarely been seen in victim's garden.
Suspects: Local gang of squirrels, approximately 5 to 6 members frequent the area and have been seen eating various other plants now and then. Their complete disregard for victim's plants, food for birds and general lack of respect for human authority is duly noted. Victim thinks one or two squirrels have even thumbed their nose at her.
Conclusion: Squirrels likely responsible for eating of said gerbera flowers and since rodents will likely remain in area, I believe that the food source, i.e, gerbera daisies, will no longer be planted in container pots.
Follow-up: Recipe for Squirrel Stew - "take 5 to 6 squirrels (preferably dead, skinned and gutted), add potatoes and onions, simmer and season to taste."
